It might read Totti but it's pronounced Roma: Francesco is not only the captain of AS Roma, but the symbol of the Club. Roman from San Giovanni, and "practicing" supporter of the Giallorossi since a very young age, when he used to travel by scooter with friends to see Roma in the Curva Sud, the number ten is without question the best player in the club's history.
His numbers say it all: Totti has reached and surpassed many existing records in his long career with Roma, which began as a kid and is still ongoing... always with the same shirt and the same enthusiasm. He is the epitome of the "one club man" - an example for all. Back to his statistics with the club: Francesco is Roma's top scorer in the league, in Europe, and has converted more penalties than anyone else. He is the Roma player with the most appearances and goals for the Italian national team, and is the top scoring active player in Serie A.
But he's not just a goalscorer: he is Roma's top appearance-maker in Serie A and in European competition. The captain's wonderful career is littered with milestones: the historic Scudetto in 2000/01 – Francesco is now the only survivor of that side – the Supercup in 2001 and 2007, and the two Coppa Italias won in recent years. Totti also won the European Under-21 championships in Spain in '96, beating the hosts – Raúl and all – in the final, and the 2006 World Cup, alongside team-mates De Rossi and Perrotta. He's also claimed a host of individual awards: the European Golden Shoe and top scorer in Serie A in 2006/07, two "Golden Guerin" and a dozen "AIC Oscars" as best young player, best Italian and best overall player, top scorer and goal of the season.
However that's not all: in 2012/13, Francesco secured another target in his long, successful career. He overtook Gunnar Nordahl, to move into second place on the Serie A all-time scoring charts. He now stands on 227. Bags of goals, wonderful skill and class which will forever remain in the Roma fans' hearts. Totti is all of that and more: our captain.
