After dreaming as a child to play volleyball, Daniele De Rossi quickly realized that football was in his DNA. He was born, afterall, with the football under his pillow, as his father Albert is a former professional player as well as the current coach of the AS Roma Primavera team. The Club of Trigoria was evidently in his destiny, as Daniele entered the juvenile ranks immediately after jis first steps in football with the team of his city, Ostiamare. Roman to the core and best known in the giallorosso capital as "Captain Future", the career of Daniele is a legend in the making: the first-team debut came in 2001, when at just 18 he debuted in the Champions League against Anderlecht. In his debut in Serie A, in May 2003 against Torino, he scored immediately his first goal and then kept going. He accumulated experience with the Giallorossi, winning in the meantime the European Under-21 title in 2004. The next season he was called by the main Italian National Team and there too, he scores in his debut, with a great goal against Norway. Lippi took him to the World Cup in Germany in 2006, where he was among the successful penalty scorers in the final of Berlin against France. More and more the landmark of the Roma midfield, he won the first trophies with the giallorosso jersey: two Italian Cups and a Super League (decided in August 2007 by his own penalty against Inter). Defined by the media and by both Italian and foreign experts as one of the best midfielders in the world, Daniele is, along with Totti, the symbol of being a “romanista”. Just having him, a champion in his play and naturally charismatic as a leader, raises the confidence of the people of the Capital for a future that could bring Rome even more success ...

Luis Enrique: "I'm proud of my team"

The words of the Giallorossi coach ahead of Wednesday's clash with Udinese at the Olimpico: "My players are guilty of nothing, I'm the only person responsible. I've heard rumours of dressing-room arguments: it's not true. The Champions League race? As things stand we're a long way off but we can still do it."
